Kenneth
L. Bontrager, MA, RT(R) began his life long career in radiologic
technology in 1958 when he began his studies at St. Luke’s Hospital in
Denver, Colorado. He then received a BA degree from the University of
Colorado and two MA degrees in education and instructional media from
the University of Northern Colorado and Denver Seminary.
He
has served as chief technologist and director of a hospital
based RT program, and as director and instructor of a community
college, city-wide hospital affiliate, associate degree RT program.
He
has presented workshops and symposia at district, regional and
national meetings on topics related to instructional methods and
mastery learning. Awards he has received include a W.I.C.E.R.T. award
in 1983 for “outstanding contributions to the profession of radiologic
technology education” and “teacher of the year” award in health
education in the state of Colorado. He has been a member of the ARRT
(American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) and ASRT (American
Society of Radiologic Technologists) since 1960.
Mr.
Bontrager began his writing and publishing career in 1972 when he
founded Multi-Media Publishing, Inc., Denver, Colorado that produced
and published programmed instructional media and educational textbooks
in radiologic technology and other allied health fields.
He
has authored or coauthored numerous audio-visual self-paced
learning programs in various subjects with the most popular being his
21 lesson series on “Radiographic Positioning and Related Anatomy”.
This widely used A-V series was expanded and beginning in 1982 the
first edition of the Textbook of Radiographic
Positioning and Related Anatomy and
a two volume workbook/laboratory
manual and ancillary electronic
instructional media were added.
These are now in their 6th
edition and
have
been translated into multiple languages. They are published and
distributed by Mosby/Elsevier to whom he sold Multi-Media Publishing in
1985.
Mr. Bontrager continues active in writing, producing and publishing instructional media for radiologic technology. He and his family also continue the publishing and distribution of Bontrager’s Pocket Atlas, Handbook of Radiographic Positioning and Techniques, now in its fourth edition.
